President Emmerson Mnangagwa has commenced his month long annual leave, beginning yesterday, 23 December 2025.
During the President’s vacation, Government business will continue under the stewardship of the two Vice Presidents in line with established constitutional and administrative arrangements.
Vice President Kembo Mohadi will assume acting presidential duties from 23 to 31 December 2025, ensuring continuity in the execution of state functions during the final days of the year.From 1 to 13 January 2026, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga will take over the acting responsibilities.
Vice President Mohadi is scheduled to resume acting presidential duties from 14 January, continuing in that role until President Mnangagwa returns to office in the early part of February 2026. Throughout this period, Cabinet operations, public service delivery, and national programmes are expected to proceed without interruption.
President Mnangagwa’s decision to spend his leave within the country underscores continuity in leadership oversight, even while on vacation, and aligns with precedent set in previous years.
The phased acting appointments are also intended to preserve policy consistency and administrative stability across government ministries and departments.
