Highlanders Football Club have officially appointed South African coach, Thabo Senong, as their new head coach, ending weeks of speculation over the technical leadership of one of Zimbabwe’s most iconic football institutions.
In a statement, the Bulawayo giants confirmed that Senong will be assisted by former Bosso striker Mkhokeli Dube, whose return brings both familiarity and renewed belief to the technical team.
Senong joins Bosso with a strong résumé in African football. He has previously served with the South African senior national team, coached the South Africa Under-20s, and led the Lesotho national team, earning a reputation for tactical discipline and youth development. His arrival signals Highlanders’ determination to stabilise and rebuild after an inconsistent campaign that concluded with the departure of Pieter de Jongh last season.
The club expressed confidence that Senong’s international exposure, paired with Dube’s intimate understanding of Highlanders’ culture, history and expectations will create a solid foundation for a stronger showing in the upcoming Premier Soccer League season.
His appointment also ended strong rumours that had linked former Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari to the post, with the Bosso executive opting for a coach with proven national team credentials.
Senong’s immediate challenge now is to assemble a competitive squad, instill consistency and restore the winning mentality that the Highlanders faithful have long demanded as the new season approaches.
