In a significant move to bridge the digital gap, UNICEF Zimbabwe has handed over a batch of ICT equipment to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, reinforcing the Government’s pledge to leave no one behind.
The donation includes 815 laptops, 708 projectors, and 2112 tablets, aimed at enhancing digital learning in rural and marginalised schools. The equipment is expected to improve access to quality education, bringing rural learners on par with their urban counterparts
Atleast 7 rural schools across Manicaland and Matabeleland South Provinces are earmarked to benefit from the deployment of the ICT equipment donation.
Speaking during the hander-over and commissioning ceremony the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Torerayi Moyo, welcomed the donation acknowledging the importance of digitized learning in today’s world.
“The integration of technology into teaching and learning is essential if Zimbabwe is to produce globally, competitive, innovative and solution-oriented citizens”, he said.
Minister Moyo reiterated the centrality of new technology to economic growth and development.
“Digital literacy and technological competence are essential foundations for industrialisation and national competitiveness.
“Education remains the cornerstone of national Development,” he added.
The donation resonates with the National Development Strategy (NDS) 2 which champions inclusive development, innovation, and modernisation.
