The ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup got underway across Zimbabwe and Namibia yesterday but Zimbabwe’s much-anticipated Group B opener against Scotland at Takashinga Sports Club in Harare was abandoned without a single ball bowled due to persistent rain and a waterlogged outfield. Officials called off the match after multiple inspections found the conditions unsafe for play, forcing both teams to share the points.
In what was expected to be a key start for the home team, Zimbabwe’s young cricketers were left frustrated as heavy weather prevented even a toss, leaving their World Cup hopes on pause while other group matches progressed.
