Chevrons stun Australia again at T20 World Cup

Zimbabwe delivered a commanding performance to defeat Australia by 23 runs in their second T20I match at the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka, extending their flawless record against the Aussies in the tournament’s history.

The Chevrons set a competitive total of 169 after an impressive batting display led by Brian Bennett, who top-scored with a brilliant 64. He was well supported by Tadiwanashe Marumani and Ryan Burl, whose contributions ensured Zimbabwe built momentum throughout their innings.

In response, Australia suffered a disastrous start, losing four wickets inside the powerplay, largely due to an exceptional bowling spell from man of the match Blessing Muzarabani. His early breakthroughs swung the match firmly in Zimbabwe’s favour.

Captain Sikandar Raza later limped off with a cramp, but the bowling unit held firm. Graeme Cremer and Wellington Masakadza maintained tight lines to restrict the Australian run rate, while Tony Munyonga pulled off a superb catch in the death overs to further derail the chase.

Despite some late resistance, Glenn Maxwell could not replicate his explosive form from the Afghanistan match, leaving Australia short of the target.

With the victory, Zimbabwe now sit on four points from two matches, strengthening their position in the tournament and reinforcing their growing reputation as a force to reckon with on the T20 World Cup stage.
