The Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, Professor Mthuli Ncube, yesterday, received a courtesy visit from the new European Union Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Katrin Hagemann, with discussions focusing on the agri-value chain and the Arrears Clearance and Debt Resolution Process.
In a statement, the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion said the meeting reflected strengthening cooperation between Zimbabwe and the European Union.
“The Hon. Minister Prof. Mthuli Ncube, today (yesterday), received a courtesy visit from the new European Union Ambassador to Zimbabwe, H.E. Katrin Hagemann,” the ministry said.
The ministry noted that deliberations centred on strategic areas of mutual interest, particularly agriculture and debt resolution.
“Discussions focused on the Agri-value chain and the Arrears Clearance and Debt Resolution Process.
The engagement was underscoring a deepening economic partnership and strengthened bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and the European Union,” the Ministry added.
The Arrears Clearance and Debt Resolution Process remains a key pillar of Zimbabwe’s economic reform and re-engagement agenda. Government has been engaging international creditors and development partners in structured dialogue aimed at resolving longstanding external debt obligations and restoring access to international financing.
Speaking on this development, Economic analyst, Persistence Gwanyanya said, “Progresss in debt resolution is vital for rebuilding investor confidence, unlocking concessional funding and expanding fiscal space for development programmes.
Continued engagement with development partners such as the European Union is critical in supporting Zimbabwe’s economic modernisation and reform trajectory,” Gwanyanya commented
Today’s meeting comes at a time when Zimbabwe is intensifying efforts to stabilise the macroeconomic environment, attract foreign direct investment and accelerate growth in productive sectors, particularly agriculture
