Don’t compare me with Oscar, DJ Ollah says

Popular media personality DJ Ollah ,real name Owen Madondo, has called for an end to comparisons between himself and fellow broadcaster Oscar Pambuka, stressing that the two are brothers in the industry and not rivals.

In a detailed Facebook post that has since sparked debate across social platforms, DJ Ollah said while he appreciates the recognition, it is unfair to pit him against someone he regards as a senior and an inspiration in his career.

“Oscar is my brother in the industry, not my rival nor opponent. I have so much respect for him. He has been in the game since 2007, that time I was still in high school. He was popular for his program Melting Pot which I loved so much. He inspired me as well,” DJ Ollah wrote.

DJ Ollah, who joined the media industry in 2012 after studying journalism at the same institution where Pambuka trained, said his colleague remains a trailblazer.

He emphasized that Pambuka paved the way for younger broadcasters, despite facing setbacks along his journey.

“My brother has faced so many challenges along the way and that doesn’t make him my junior in the game, he remains my senior. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. I believe we are all good in what we do — no need for comparison because we do things differently. It’s not fair to compare Ronaldo and Yamal,” Ollah stated.

Ollah also highlighted his own career milestones, noting that he has been consistent since venturing into interviews in 2021. He credited his success to persistence and adaptability in the fast-changing media landscape.

“In this digital era, I have managed to start my own media house and have close to 20 employees. Let’s celebrate that instead of creating rivalry. I left my job when I was at my peak on radio and started my own company. I believe it worked well for me because most people who left before are no longer relevant or known anymore,” he said.

He further revealed that his brand has already collected eight awards in 2025 alone, which he described as a huge achievement for himself, his team, and his supporters.

Far from fuelling rivalry, DJ Ollah took time to welcome Oscar Pambuka back into the industry, wishing him success in his comeback.

“We welcome my brother in media, Oscar Pambuka, back in the game and we wish you well — you are the best! I also want to thank Mr. Plot Mhako for recognizing my brother. That’s a win,” Ollah wrote.

The broadcaster concluded his message by thanking fans and supporters for their continued love, saying the recognition he receives proves he is “doing extremely well” in a field full of journalists.

With his remarks, DJ Ollah not only put to rest speculation about tension with Pambuka but also set the tone for mutual respect and collaboration in Zimbabwe’s evolving media space.
