Russia supports Zimbabwe’s integration into BRICS Bloc

Russia has expressed firm support for Zimbabwe’s application to join the BRICS alliance, affirming its readiness to welcome the country’s integration into the growing bloc of emerging economies.

Speaking in Harare yesterday, the Russian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Nikolai Krasilnikov, said Moscow fully backs Zimbabwe’s aspirations to become part of the BRICS family, which currently brings together Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

“Russia fully supports Zimbabwe’s desire to join the BRICS alliance. We believe that Zimbabwe’s inclusion will further strengthen South–South cooperation and enhance economic collaboration among countries of the Global South,” he said.

The Ambassador commended the progress Zimbabwe has made under the leadership of President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, noting that the country’s development trajectory aligns with the values and objectives of BRICS.

“Zimbabwe has shown strong commitment to multilateral cooperation and development-focused diplomacy. President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 is consistent with the principles that guide BRICS  mutual respect, shared growth, and inclusive development,” he said.

Ambassador Krasilnikov further described Zimbabwe as a strategic partner and reliable ally of Russia on the African continent.

“Russia and Zimbabwe enjoy long-standing ties built on trust, friendship, and mutual benefit. We are ready to continue expanding our cooperation in key areas such as trade, mining, energy, and technology,” he said.

Zimbabwe’s potential integration into BRICS is expected to open new opportunities for trade, investment, and technology exchange, further deepening the enduring relations between Harare and Moscow.

The move also reflects the strengthening of Zimbabwe’s global partnerships as the country continues to pursue economic transformation, industrialisation, and greater participation in international economic frameworks.
