Lupane, Ward 22 is set to host a vibrant schools sports tournament on 25 February, 2026, at Elihlo Primary School, bringing together learners from across the cluster in a celebration of talent, unity and youth empowerment.
The event, which starts at 10am, will be officiated by the Member of Parliament for Lupane East, Phathisiwe Machangu, who is championing the initiative as part of broader efforts to promote grassroots development.
Held under the theme “Empowering Children Through Sports”, the tournament aims to nurture sporting excellence while strengthening discipline, teamwork and academic commitment among young learners.
MP Machangu said investing in children through sport was investing in the nation’s future.
“Sport is a powerful tool for shaping disciplined, confident and focused young people. When we empower our children through sport, we are building leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals who will drive Zimbabwe’s development,” she said.
She added that the initiative complements the country’s Vision 2030 agenda and the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), both of which emphasise human capital development and youth empowerment.
“As leadership, we have a responsibility to create platforms that allow our children to discover and nurture their talents. This tournament is not just about competition; it is about unity, literacy, character building and community pride,” said Machangu.
Parents, teachers and community stakeholders have been urged to attend in large numbers to support the learners and encourage a culture of active participation in sport.
The tournament is expected to further strengthen community bonds while positioning Ward 22 as a hub of youth development in Lupane.
