The trial of murder suspect Jaison Muvevi is set to commence at the High Court of Zimbabwe in Harare on a continuous roll from this Monday until Friday.
The alleged murder case, which occurred in 2023, attracted national attention due to the violent nature of the incidents.
Muvevi, who hails from Ruzane Village in Hwedza District, is accused of fatally shooting four people and attempting to kill four others during a series of violent attacks that took place in Hwedza in January 2023.
Those who lost their lives in the alleged attacks include Nyarai Round, Inspector Maxwell Hove, who was stationed at Zimbabwe Republic Police’s Hwedza Police Station, Chrispen Kanerusine, a leader of an apostolic shrine and a bartender, Munashe Majani.
According to court documents, the incident occurred on January 13, 2023, when Muvevi allegedly drove to a Johanne Masowe eChishanu Apostolic Church shrine where his mother, Shupikai Muvevi, was attending a gathering with other congregants. Muvevi was later arrested in Mozambique before being brought back to Zimbabwe to face trial
