CAF Revokes Senegal AFCON Title

Morocco has been crowned the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) appeal board overturned Senegal’s 1-0 win in the final.

The decision was made following Senegal’s walk-off protest over a late penalty awarded to Morocco, resulting in a 3-nil forfeit victory for Morocco.

This marks Morocco’s first AFCON title since 1976.

The original match, held on January 18, 2026, in Rabat, saw Senegal win 1-0 in extra time, but the CAF appeal board ruled that Senegal’s walk-off constituted a forfeit, triggering Articles 82 and 84 of the AFCON regulations.

Senegal has announced plans to appeal the decision, potentially taking it to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland. The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has welcomed the decision, reaffirming their commitment to respecting the rules and regulations of the competition
