Zimbabwe, Türkiye deepen industrial cooperation

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce says Zimbabwe is intensifying efforts to attract Turkish investment into key value addition sectors following high-level talks between Industry and Commerce Minister, Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndhlovu and Türkiye’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Berna Kasnaklı Versteden, yesterday.

In a statement, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce said the courtesy call reaffirmed strong relations between the two countries and underscored growing trade cooperation.

“Honourable Minister N.M. Ndhlovu received H.E. Ambassador Berna Kasnaklı Versteden for a courtesy call, reaffirming strong bilateral relations and growing trade cooperation between Zimbabwe and Türkiye,” the Ministry said.

The Ministry added that discussions centred on unlocking investment opportunities in value addition sectors critical to Zimbabwe’s industrialisation drive.

“Discussions focused on unlocking investment opportunities in value addition, including lithium processing, cotton-to-clothing, chrome smelting, and tyre manufacturing,” read the statement.

It further highlighted that Zimbabwe continues to position itself as an attractive destination for industrial investment through policy reforms and targeted incentives.

“Zimbabwe continues to position itself as a prime destination for industrial partnerships through Special Economic Zones and incentives under the Zimbabwe Investment Development Agency (ZIDA),” the Ministry said.

Special Economic Zones are expected to play a pivotal role in driving industrial growth by offering tax incentives, streamlined regulations, and improved infrastructure to investors.

“The Zimbabwe Investment Development Agency has also been central in facilitating investment approvals and promoting ease of doing business,” the Ministry added.

Zimbabwe has been pursuing an industrialisation agenda anchored on value addition and beneficiation, with Government actively courting foreign direct investment to revitalise manufacturing and enhance export competitiveness.

Türkiye has, in recent years, expanded its economic footprint in Africa, making the partnership a strategic fit for Zimbabwe’s development goals.
