The ZANU–PF has begun preparations for its 23rd National People’s Conference, with Mashonaland West Province set to host the annual gathering from 12 to 17 October.
The conference will take place at the Chinhoyi University of Technology, where preparatory work is already underway.
Momentum increased following a Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting held at the institution, during which committees were established to oversee logistics, transport, accommodation and resource mobilisation.
Mashonaland West Provincial Chairperson, Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, said the province was fully ready to host the high-profile event.
“We are happy and prepared to host this year’s National People’s Conference from October 12 to 17. We resolved to use CUT as our venue as it has all the necessary amenities. Preparations are already underway, with the provincial committee and various sub-committees now in place,” she said.
A proposal to appoint the party’s National Resource Mobilisation Committee Chairperson, Philip Chiyangwa, to lead provincial preparations was tabled by Politburo member Ziyambi Ziyambi and seconded by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland West, Marian Chombo.
The party’s national leadership is expected to tour the venue this week to assess the province’s state of preparedness.
Cde Ziyambi also commended Mashonaland West for its strong participation in consultations on Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, noting high attendance and numerous written submissions forwarded to Parliament.
Last year’s National People’s Conference was held in Mutare.
