Kyrgyzstan supports Zim’s UNSC Campaign

Zimbabwe’s campaign for election to a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) received a boost after Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Professor Amon Murwira attended a campaign event hosted by the Republic of Kyrgyzstan this Saturday.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade said the event underscored growing diplomatic solidarity between Zimbabwe and Kyrgyzstan and highlighted the importance of cooperation among nations pursuing greater representation in global governance structures.

“The occasion reflected growing diplomatic solidarity and cooperation between Zimbabwe and Kyrgyzstan within the multilateral arena,” said the Ministry.

The Ministry described the New York engagement as a significant development in Zimbabwe’s diplomatic outreach strategy, noting that the country continues to intensify engagements with member states ahead of the Security Council elections.

“As Zimbabwe continues to engage with nations on international platforms, this demonstration of solidarity in New York symbolises mutual respect, strengthens diplomatic collaboration and reflects a shared commitment to inclusive global governance and lasting peace and security,” the Ministry said.

The Ministry said Zimbabwe’s candidature is anchored on the principles of dialogue, cooperation and the peaceful resolution of disputes, values that align with the objectives of the United Nations.

“The United Nations advocates conflict prevention, preventive diplomacy and bridge-building as key tools for promoting global peace. Zimbabwe remains committed to these principles and believes they are essential in addressing emerging and existing global challenges,” said the Ministry.

According to the Ministry, Zimbabwe’s election to the Security Council would provide an opportunity for the country to contribute meaningfully to international efforts aimed at maintaining global peace and security while advancing the interests of developing nations.

“If elected to the United Nations Security Council, Zimbabwe will work closely with other elected members to advance international peace and security through preventive diplomacy, the peaceful settlement of disputes and inclusive global governance anchored in the United Nations Charter.

Zimbabwe’s campaign continues to attract support from countries that share its vision for a more representative and inclusive international system,” the Ministry added.

Zimbabwe is seeking election to a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council as part of its foreign policy objective of contributing to global peace, security and multilateral cooperation.

The country has consistently advocated for dialogue, peaceful conflict resolution and reforms aimed at making international institutions more representative and inclusive.
