National Foods has been hailed as a key pillar of Zimbabwe’s industrialisation agenda and economic transformation, with Government describing the company as a strategic partner in driving manufacturing growth, value addition and job creation.
This emerged yesterday during a tour of the company’s operations by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Ambassador Thomas Chifamba, who assessed National Foods’ investments, production capacity and contribution to the country’s industrial development.
Speaking during the visit, Ambassador Chifamba said National Foods remains a strategic partner in the country’s economic transformation through its significant role in manufacturing, value addition and employment creation.
“National Foods is a key player in Zimbabwe’s industrialisation journey and an important contributor to the realisation of Vision 2030. The company has demonstrated a strong commitment to local production, value addition and import substitution, which are critical pillars of our national economic development strategy,” he said.
He said Government was keen to deepen collaboration with industry to create a competitive and resilient manufacturing sector capable of driving sustainable economic growth.
“Our discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between Government and the private sector, advancing the local content agenda and accelerating the Buy Zimbabwe Campaign. These initiatives are designed to empower local industry, increase domestic production and reduce dependence on imports,” added Ambassador Chifamba.
He said that promoting local content was essential for stimulating economic activity across various sectors and ensuring that Zimbabwean industries remained competitive.
“By supporting local manufacturers, we create jobs, strengthen value chains, retain wealth within the economy and enhance national productivity. The success of companies such as National Foods demonstrates the immense potential that exists within our industrial sector,” he said.
Ambassador Chifamba noted that National Foods’ extensive product portfolio, which includes cereals, flour, pasta, biscuits, snacks and stockfeeds, makes it a strategic contributor to national food security and economic stability.
“The company’s investments and operational capacity contribute significantly to food security, value addition and employment creation. Such enterprises are indispensable in building a strong and self-sustaining economy,” he said.
He reiterated Government’s commitment to creating an enabling business environment that encourages investment, innovation and industrial growth.
“The Ministry of Industry and Commerce will continue working closely with the private sector to address challenges, unlock opportunities and foster industrial competitiveness. Strong public-private sector partnerships remain critical to achieving sustainable economic growth and national development,” said Ambassador Chifamba.
The visit forms part of Government’s efforts to engage industry stakeholders and strengthen cooperation aimed at advancing industrialisation, enhancing local production and achieving an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.
National Foods is one of Zimbabwe’s leading manufacturing companies, producing a wide range of food products and stockfeeds.
The company plays a significant role in value addition, import substitution, employment creation and food security, making it a key contributor to Zimbabwe’s industrial and economic development objectives.
