The European Union (EU) has launched a new €6 million funding opportunity for civil society organisations (CSOs) in Zimbabwe, offering grants ranging from €1 million to €3 million to support projects aimed at strengthening citizen participation.
In a statement yesterday, the European Union Delegation to Zimbabwe said the funding facility is designed to empower citizens, particularly women, youth and persons with disabilities, to actively participate in local decision-making processes while fostering sustainable development at community level.
“The European Union is offering grants from EUR 1 million to EUR 3 million (total EUR 6 million) for civil society projects that help citizens, especially women, youth and persons with disabilities, to participate in local decision making.
The programme will also support initiatives that promote inclusive local economic development in key agribusiness value chains and projects aimed at improving access to justice at community level,” EU said.
According to the delegation, projects must be implemented at national level and cover districts identified under two geographic lots.
“Lot 1 covers Masvingo, Mwenezi, Chiredzi and Beitbridge districts, as well as Mbire, Hurungwe, Nyami Nyami and Binga, in addition to Murehwa, Mutoko and Mudzi.
Lot 2 includes Mutare, Mutasa, Makoni and Chipinge districts, alongside Harare, Norton, Zvimba, Goromonzi, Marondera and Mazowe. The lot also extends to Chegutu, Gweru, Vungu and Shurugwi,” the statement read.
The European Union is one of Zimbabwe’s key development partners, supporting programmes in governance, agriculture, health, education, social protection and economic development through partnerships with government institutions, civil society organisations and the private sector.
