Bulawayo–Vic Falls road upgrade reaches 59.9km milestone

Rehabilitation works on the Bulawayo–Victoria Falls road has reached a significant milestone, with 59.9 kilometres of the highway now opened to traffic as efforts to modernise one of Zimbabwe’s most strategic transport corridors continue.

Provincial Roads Engineer for Matabeleland North, Engineer Xolani Ncube, said the progress achieved so far demonstrates Government’s commitment to enhancing transport infrastructure and improving connectivity across the region.

“Works are progressing steadily, and we have now opened 59.9 kilometres to traffic. The project remains focused on delivering a safer and more efficient road network that supports tourism, trade and regional integration,” said Eng Ncube.

He noted that contractors continue to work on various sections of the road, with construction activities including road widening, surfacing and installation of safety features designed to improve the driving experience.

The rehabilitation project forms part of broader efforts to upgrade key national roads and strengthen Zimbabwe’s transport infrastructure. Once completed, the improved highway is expected to enhance road safety, reduce travel times and facilitate the smoother movement of goods and people, while boosting tourism, commerce and wider economic activity in Matabeleland North and beyond.

Motorists have welcomed the progress, expressing optimism that the upgraded corridor will improve travel comfort and contribute to sustained regional economic development.
