China has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening trade, investment and economic cooperation with Zimbabwe, further cementing the longstanding friendship and strategic partnership between the two countries.
The commitment was made during a courtesy call by the Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Zhou Ding, on Vice President General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga in Harare yesterday.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Ambassador Zhou said, “China remains dedicated to expanding economic collaboration with Zimbabwe and promoting mutually beneficial partnerships that contribute to the development and prosperity of both nations.”
He noted that the strong bilateral relations that have existed for decades continue to provide a firm foundation for increased trade, investment and cooperation across various sectors of the economy.
Ambassador Zhou said, “Zimbabwe and China enjoy excellent diplomatic relations built on mutual respect, trust and shared interests,” adding that Beijing is keen to deepen engagement in areas that support Zimbabwe’s development aspirations.
He highlighted China’s position as Zimbabwe’s largest foreign investor, saying Chinese companies have made significant contributions to the country’s economic growth through investments in infrastructure, mining, energy, manufacturing and agriculture.
The ambassador said, “China remains committed to supporting Zimbabwe’s industrialisation and modernisation agenda through increased investment and expanded economic cooperation.”
The latest engagement comes at a time when economic relations between the two countries are continuing to grow, reflecting the strengthening partnership between Harare and Beijing.
Bilateral trade between Zimbabwe and China surpassed US$4 billion last year, reaching a historic high and demonstrating the growing volume of trade and business activity between the two countries.
The milestone reflects increasing exports, investment flows and economic exchanges that have become a key feature of relations between the two nations.
China remains one of Zimbabwe’s most important strategic partners, with cooperation extending beyond trade and investment to include infrastructure development, technology transfer, skills development and people-to-people exchanges.
Several major infrastructure and mining projects across Zimbabwe have benefited from Chinese investment and expertise, contributing to job creation and economic transformation.
The meeting between Ambassador Zhou and Vice President Chiwenga reaffirmed the shared commitment of both countries to strengthening bilateral cooperation and exploring new opportunities for economic growth and development.
As Zimbabwe continues to pursue its economic development goals, China is expected to remain a key partner in supporting investment, trade expansion and the implementation of projects aimed at improving livelihoods and accelerating national development.
