Competing Political Parties Welcome Official Results of Ethiopia’s 7th General Election

(ENA)__Competing political parties have welcomed the official results of Ethiopia’s 7th General Election, describing the vote as an important milestone in strengthening peace, democratic participation, and national stability.

Following the announcement of the final results by the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), political parties issued statements recognising the significance of the electoral process while urging the incoming government to address the country’s pressing political, security, and development challenges.

In a statement, the National Movement of Amhara (NaMA) described the election as a historic turning point made possible through the sacrifices of citizens committed to peace and democratic transformation.

The party said the election reflected Ethiopians’ determination to build a better political and socio-economic future and demonstrated the country’s growing political maturity and resilience.

NaMA noted that the election was conducted despite security challenges and attempts by anti-peace forces to disrupt the process.

It commended citizens for their peaceful participation, stating that the outcome represented a victory for those committed to stability and democratic progress.

According to the party, the newly elected government assumes significant legal and political responsibilities, including ensuring peace, security, stability, equitable development, and the protection of citizens’ rights.

NaMA urged the government to prioritise the rule of law, guarantee freedom of movement and employment, and address attacks targeting ethnic and religious communities.

The party also called for intensified efforts to advance peace initiatives in conflict-affected areas, particularly in the Amhara, Oromia, and Tigray regions. It stressed the importance of strengthening institutional mechanisms that support peacebuilding, national dialogue, political inclusion, and reintegration programs.

Regarding the Amhara Region, NaMA emphasised the need to accelerate reconstruction efforts and continue development projects, arguing that regional development should contribute to both local prosperity and national progress.

It also called for the creation of a political environment capable of addressing structural, legal, and political concerns raised by citizens.

Furthermore, the party appealed to political organisations and armed groups to respect the will of the people expressed through the ballot box and encouraged those engaged in armed struggle to pursue their objectives through peaceful political participation.

NaMA also raised concerns over governance and representation in areas where voting could not take place because of security challenges. It called on NEBE and relevant federal institutions to organise supplementary elections to ensure adequate representation for affected communities.

The statement further acknowledged the contribution of the Ethiopian diaspora in supporting peaceful political processes and encouraged Ethiopians living abroad to respect the election results and contribute positively to national peace and development efforts.

Concluding its statement, NaMA congratulated the Prosperity Party on securing a majority in the election and called on the ruling party to intensify efforts aimed at promoting peace, national unity, security, and inclusive development.

Similarly, the Ethiopian Citizens for Social Justice Party (EZEMA) expressed satisfaction that the election process had concluded peacefully despite challenges encountered during the campaign and voting periods.

The party said the official declaration of results by NEBE marked the successful completion of the electoral process and congratulated all stakeholders involved. It also commended its candidates, members, supporters, and citizens who participated in the election with integrity and commitment.

EZEMA pledged to strengthen its role as a competitive political force by building on its achievements, addressing shortcomings, and promoting a modern democratic culture through constructive criticism and peaceful political engagement.

The party reaffirmed its readiness to cooperate with all political actors on matters of national importance, expressing confidence that such collaboration would contribute to Ethiopia’s democratic advancement and future development.

EZEMA also congratulated the Prosperity Party for securing a mandate to continue governing the country, as well as other political organisations that won representation through the election.

Calling for deeper democratic consolidation, the party urged the incoming government to strengthen democratic institutions, ensure a level political playing field for all parties, and promote open discussion of alternative policy proposals.

It further stressed the importance of cultivating a political culture that embraces criticism and diverse viewpoints as essential elements of democratic governance.

The Wollo People’s Democratic Party also welcomed the official election results and reaffirmed its respect for the will of the electorate.

In its statement, the party congratulated Ethiopian voters for their participation and pledged to honour both the public’s decision and the results announced by NEBE.

Acknowledging the outcome of the election, the Prosperity Party noted that the Prosperity Party had secured sufficient support to form governments at the federal, regional, and city administration levels. It also extended congratulations to the party’s leadership, members, and supporters.

It said it hopes the election will usher in a more mature democratic era characterised by peace, stability, and development.

The party further pledged to work alongside the government in safeguarding national unity, promoting development, and countering forces that threaten peace and stability.

The reactions from the competing political parties reflect broad acceptance of the election outcome and underscore a shared call for stronger democratic institutions, effective national dialogue, lasting peace, and inclusive development as Ethiopia enters a new political chapter.
