Gutu West legislator, John Paradza has launched the construction of a computer laboratory at Matizha Primary School ahead of the school’s centenary celebrations on August 28, in a move aimed at expanding access to digital education in the rural district.
Construction has already commenced, with an initial delivery of 20 000 bricks and 100 bags of cement to the school, paving the way for the development of a modern information and communication technology (ICT) facility.
The project is expected to equip pupils with essential digital skills, helping to bridge the digital divide between rural and urban schools while supporting the Government’s drive towards Vision 2030.
In an interview with this publication, Paradza said investing in ICT infrastructure at the primary school level was critical to preparing learners for the demands of the modern world.
“The laboratory will give our children the tools they need to compete in a modern economy. Every child, regardless of where they live, deserves access to technology and the opportunity to develop digital skills from an early age,” he said.
Paradza said the project formed part of broader efforts to improve educational infrastructure in Gutu West and ensure rural learners were not left behind in the country’s digital transformation agenda.
School authorities welcomed the initiative, describing it as a milestone that would enhance teaching and learning while leaving a lasting legacy as Matizha Primary School celebrates 100 years of service to the community.
The computer laboratory is expected to improve access to ICT education and create opportunities for learners to develop practical skills needed in an increasingly technology-driven economy.
