Zimbabwe’s premier July Worship Music Festival returns to Glamis Arena on 11 July, with organisers promising a bigger production, an expanded line-up of gospel artistes and a deeper worship experience.
Since its inception in 2018, the festival has grown into one of the country’s largest gospel events, drawing thousands of worshippers from across Zimbabwe each year.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday, festival organisers said this year’s edition will introduce new performance categories, including gospel hip-hop, while also providing a platform for emerging gospel ministers and former backing vocalists who have launched solo careers.
Festival founder, Michael Mahendere, said the event has continued to grow through God’s grace and remains firmly focused on worship.
“We started this journey in 2018 with a small gathering, and by the grace of God we have continued to grow, moving from smaller venues to bigger platforms. This year we are taking another step by hosting the festival at Glamis Arena,” he said.
Mahendere said the inclusion of new genres and upcoming artistes reflects the festival’s commitment to nurturing gospel talent while maintaining its spiritual purpose.
“We have introduced new categories, including gospel hip-hop, and created space for emerging ministers because we want this platform to continue growing. We are gathering as one people to praise and worship God together,” he said.
Upcoming gospel artistes described the opportunity to perform at the festival as a major career milestone, saying they are preparing to deliver memorable performances to worshippers.
A former backing vocalist who has since embarked on a solo ministry said the festival offers an invaluable platform for emerging gospel musicians to minister before larger audiences.
A gospel hip-hop performer said the festival also highlights the diversity of gospel music, proving that different musical styles can all be effective in spreading the Gospel.
This year’s programme features an impressive line-up that includes Michael Mahendere, Misheck Mahendere, Gemma Griffiths, Eleana Makombe, The Cherayis, the Charamba family, and several other gospel ministers.
