Media tour showcases Mash Central development projects

The Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, yesterday, led journalists on a tour of major infrastructure and development projects in Mashonaland Central Province, showcasing Government investments in industry, health, education and rural development that are transforming livelihoods and driving socio-economic growth.

The tour was led by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Nick Mangwana, and the Permanent Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland Central Province, Timothy Maregere.

In a statement, the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services said the media tour was intended to provide journalists with first-hand appreciation of Government-backed development initiatives taking shape across the province.

“Today the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services led a media tour in Mashonaland Central on signature infrastructure projects. The tour began at Panvert (Pvt) Ltd in Glendale, Mazowe District, where the company has diversified from transport into mineral processing.

To date, Panvert has invested US$810 000 in its Glendale plant, with plans to increase the investment to US$1.5 million. The company currently employs 121 people, with 90 workers at the Glendale plant and a further 31 at Wise Acres,” the Ministry said.

The delegation then toured Muyambuka Clinic in Bindura, which was constructed using Devolution Funds allocated in 2020 and officially opened in September 2024.

According to the Ministry, the health facility has significantly improved access to healthcare for surrounding communities.

“Previously, community members had to travel more than 12 kilometres to access health care services, and during the rainy season, flooding of the Mazowe River often cut off access entirely. The clinic now serves up to 5 000 people,” the Ministry said.

The tour also inspected the Government-funded male students’ hostel under construction at Bindura University of Science Education.

“The three-storey hostel would help ease accommodation shortages, improve student welfare and safety, increase enrolment capacity and strengthen access to higher education,” the statement read.

The final stop was Zvitokwe Primary School in Shamva, which was built through a partnership between the local community and Canterbury Mining Company.

“The school has five three-classroom blocks, providing a total of 15 modern classrooms complete with insulated steel roofing and all necessary finishings for a conducive learning environment.

The classrooms and administration block are connected to wi-fi, while electricity connection is underway after engagement with ZESA. The school also plans to expand into an affordable boarding facility for the local community,” the Ministry added.

The Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services regularly conducts media tours across the country to expose journalists to major infrastructure and development projects being implemented under the Government’s national development agenda, enabling the public to appreciate progress made in various sectors.
