New digital hub for Masvingo – Nemamwa Digital Centre

Masvingo Province has taken a major step towards bridging the digital divide following the commissioning of the Nemamwa Digital Centre and the distribution of digital learning equipment to schools during the 2026 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day commemorations.

The state-of-the-art digital centre, officially commissioned by Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Minister Tatenda Mavetera, is expected to expand access to technology and digital skills for communities in the province.

Equipped with 15 laptops and a gaming room, the facility is among 31 digital centres established across Zimbabwe to promote digital inclusion and provide opportunities for innovation, learning and entrepreneurship.

Speaking during the commemorations held under the theme “Digital Lifelines: Strengthening Resilience in a Connected World,” Mavetera said technology remains central to Zimbabwe’s development agenda and the attainment of Vision 2030.

“We must ensure that no community is left behind in the digital revolution. Access to technology creates opportunities for education, innovation, entrepreneurship and economic growth,” she said.

The event also saw dozens of schools from across Masvingo Province receiving Lenovo laptops and Starlink internet kits donated by President Emmerson Mnangagwa as part of efforts to improve digital learning and connectivity in educational institutions.

The equipment is expected to enhance access to online educational resources, research materials and digital learning platforms, particularly in rural schools.

Minister of State for provincial affairs and devolution for Masvingo province, Ezra Chadzamira, described the opening of the digital centre as a significant milestone in the province’s development.

“Digital technologies are transforming the way we live, learn and conduct business. Facilities such as the Nemamwa Digital Centre will help empower communities with the skills and knowledge needed to participate in the modern economy,” he said.

The World Telecommunication and Information Society Day commemorations brought together government officials, telecommunications industry stakeholders, community leaders, educators and learners to celebrate the role of information and communication technologies in national development.

Stakeholders noted that expanding digital infrastructure remains critical in improving access to education, healthcare, agriculture, business opportunities and Government services, particularly in underserved communities.

The commissioning of the Nemamwa Digital Centre and the distribution of laptops and Starlink kits are expected to strengthen Zimbabwe’s drive towards a digitally empowered society and support the country’s broader vision of inclusive economic growth through technology.
