The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) has taken a major step in its digital transformation journey with the launch of Z+, a new Over-the-Top (OTT) streaming platform designed to give audiences seamless access to television, radio and on-demand content anytime and anywhere.
The platform, officially unveiled in Harare, on Thursday, is expected to broaden the reach of the national broadcaster by making its content available across multiple digital devices, while enhancing accessibility for audiences both locally and abroad.
Speaking at the launch, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Zhemu Soda, said the platform supports Government’s drive to modernise the media sector and improve citizens’ access to information.
“This initiative represents a strategic development in the national media transformation agenda, positioning Zimbabwe within the evolving global digital ecosystem. It aligns with the Second Republic’s vision of modernising and ensuring equitable access to information while promoting media diversity and accessibility through a citizen-centred solution. The platform integrates television, radio and content creation into a single digital ecosystem,” said Dr Soda.
ZBC Chief Operating Officer, Engineer Tapiwa Mudzamba, said Z+ brings together the corporation’s television, radio and digital content under one platform.
“On the platform, we have a number of content categories ranging from live programming to video-on-demand content. Under live television, we have all the live television channels that ZBC currently offers. Users also have access to our radio stations. Other content categories include dramas, current affairs programmes, documentaries, music shows and much more,” said Eng Mudzamba.
