Government’s housing delivery drive has recorded a major milestone following the completion of the Dombotombo Flats Housing Project in Marondera, with 64 residential units now ready for occupation.
The completion of the project was confirmed by the Portfolio Committee on Local Government, Public Works and National Housing during an oversight visit, this Wednesday, to assess progress on housing and urban development initiatives across the country.
The Committee which was led by Committee Chairperson, Dr Maxmore Njanji, toured the completed development which consists of four four-storey apartment blocks comprising a total of 64 housing units. Each apartment features two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, bathroom and toilet, offering modern accommodation for prospective residents.
Dr Njanji said the completion of the Dombotombo Flats project demonstrates progress in Government’s efforts to expand access to decent and affordable housing while addressing accommodation shortages in urban areas.
“The Dombotombo Flats development adds to ongoing housing initiatives aimed at increasing Zimbabwe’s housing stock while promoting planned urban settlements,” he said.
“As such parliamentary oversight remains critical in ensuring that public projects are implemented according to required standards and deliver tangible benefits to communities.”
Residents and stakeholders welcomed the development, saying increased housing delivery would provide families with security, dignity and improved standards of living.
The completion of the project comes as Government continues to prioritise housing delivery as part of broader efforts to improve living conditions, support urban development and create sustainable human settlements. It highlights the role of public housing projects in supporting urban growth while ensuring that infrastructure development keeps pace with population expansion.
The committee is expected to continue visiting housing and infrastructure projects across the country as part of its nationwide oversight programme running from 9 to 16 July 2026. The programme focuses on monitoring implementation progress, identifying challenges and recommending possible interventions in housing delivery, urban renewal, sanitation and settlement development initiatives.
