Fastjet Zimbabwe’s new Airbus A320 aircraft, arrived in Victoria Falls on Sunday. The aircraft will enhance capacity on the Victoria Falls-Johannesburg and Harare-Johannesburg routes.
Representing the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Barbara Rwodzi, Deputy Minister,Tongai Mafidi Mnangagwa, described the investment as a strong vote of confidence in Zimbabwe’s tourism sector.
“The investment reflects growing confidence in Destination Zimbabwe while enhancing access through the Victoria Falls–Johannesburg and Harare–Johannesburg routes,” he said.
Mnangagwa said improved air connectivity remains central to Government’s strategy of unlocking tourism growth by making the country more accessible to regional and international travellers.
“The introduction of the 168-seat aircraft is expected to boost tourist arrivals, improve travel convenience and support the growth of key tourism clusters, including Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE), Sports, Nature and Wildlife, Culture and Heritage, and Religious Tourism,” he said.
He noted that aviation and tourism are closely linked sectors whose growth depends on continued investment in transport infrastructure.
“Tourism and Aviation are mutually reinforcing sectors, with every additional seat creating opportunities across the tourism value chain,” Hon Mnangagwa said.
He added that Government remains committed to modernising airport infrastructure while working with industry players to strengthen destination marketing.
“We reaffirm Government’s commitment to improving airport infrastructure and collaborative destination marketing ahead of the Sanganai/Hlanganani Dzimbahwe World Tourism Expo 2026 in Masvingo. This investment is another milestone in enhancing Zimbabwe’s tourism competitiveness,” he said.
The latest fleet expansion is expected to strengthen links with South Africa, one of Zimbabwe’s largest source markets, while supporting broader efforts to grow visitor numbers, stimulate tourism investment and create employment across the tourism value chain as the country pursues its Vision 2030 economic transformation agenda.
