Zimbabwe has strengthened its position in Africa’s macadamia industry after recording a 40 percent increase in production during the 2025/26 season.
In a statement, trade promotion body ZimTrade said the growth of the macadamia sector reflects the impact of increased investment, improved agricultural policies and growing participation by farmers across the country.
“The growth of Zimbabwe’s macadamia industry is a clear indication of the opportunities available within the country’s agricultural sector.
“The 40 percent increase in production highlights the impact of investment, improved farming practices and the commitment of farmers to participate in high-value export-oriented agriculture,” said ZimTrade.
The organisation said the expansion of macadamia production was creating new economic opportunities beyond commercial farming, with thousands of people benefiting through employment opportunities and participation in the broader value chain, including processing, packaging and logistics.
“Macadamia production is not only about increasing volumes but also about creating sustainable livelihoods. The sector is supporting rural communities by generating income for farmers and creating jobs along the value chain,” said ZimTrade.
ZimTrade said the country’s improved position in the continental macadamia market presents opportunities for Zimbabwean producers to access international markets and strengthen the country’s export portfolio.
“Zimbabwe has significant potential to become a competitive player in global markets. High-value crops such as macadamia nuts provide an opportunity to earn foreign currency while supporting economic development in rural areas,” said ZimTrade.
The development aligns with Government’s broader agricultural transformation agenda, which seeks to position farming as a major driver of economic growth, employment creation and export earnings.
With Zimbabwe now ranked among Africa’s leading macadamia producers, industry stakeholders believe the sector has potential to further expand and contribute to the country’s drive towards a more diversified and export-focused economy.
