President Emmerson Mnangagwa has recommended 10 people for appointment as Senators following the enactment of Constitutional Amendment Act No. 3.

The names of the nominees were announced in the National Assembly by Speaker of Parliament, Advocate Jacob Mudenda, during Tuesday’s sitting.

Adv Mudenda said the nominees had been selected based on their professional skills, competencies and other qualifications.

“After consultation with the National Assembly, I have to inform the House that His Excellency, the President, is desirous of appointing the following as Senators,” Adv Mudenda said.

The nominees are Jabulani Sibanda, Mary Mliswa, Nokhutula Matsikinyere, Kudakwashe Tagwirei, Godwills Masimirembwa, Lucy Chitaga, retired Major-General Gibson Mashingaidze, Makosini Hlongwane, Brilliant Dube and Irene Mutumba.

The appointments follow the coming into effect of Constitutional Amendment Act No. 3, which expanded the President’s powers to appoint additional Senators.
