Chinhoyi man sentenced for raping juvenile

The Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 28-year-old man to an effective 20 years in prison for the rape of a 12-year-old girl.
On the 27th of June 2026, at around 1500 hours, the victim and her younger brother were sent to a nearby homestead to harvest maize.
Along the way, they noticed the offender standing near a gate, conversing with a woman.
The offender followed the children to the homestead and, at approximately 1800 hours as they were returning home, he confronted them again. Without provocation, he grabbed a tree branch and gave chase, forcing the siblings to flee in opposite directions. He caught up with the victim, seized her by the neck, and dragged her toward a nearby dam. When she cried out for help, he threatened to kill her. He then forced her to the ground, removed her clothing, and raped her four times.
Meanwhile, the victim’s brother ran home and alerted their mother, who immediately went in search of her daughter. Upon locating the victim, the mother learned of the ordeal and promptly reported the matter to the police, leading to the offender’s swift arrest and subsequent conviction.
