Zvitsva back in court as sentencing looms

Multiple homicide suspect Anymore Zvitsva, who was last week convicted on 10 counts of robbery, rape and attempted murder, is expected to return to court on Wednesday for sentencing.

Zvitsva pleaded guilty to all charges when they were presented before Harare regional magistrate Francis Mapfumo, admitting to each offence as read out in court.

According to the State, the offences include five counts of attempted murder, four counts of rape, and one count of robbery committed across several communities.

The court heard that on October 9 last year, Zvitsva unlawfully entered the home of Providence Maruza (27) in Ditwi Village, Chiwe Farm, Raffingora. He allegedly threatened her, restrained her, and forced her to accompany him to a nearby thicket, where he assaulted her before fleeing.

On October 27, prosecutors say Zvitsva went to the homestead of Reginet Sango (62) in Mudhindo Village, Kachuta, under Chief Bepura in Guruve. He confronted her while she was returning from fetching water, assaulted her when she tried to escape, and sexually attacked her, leaving her seriously injured.

Later that same day, Zvitsva allegedly attacked Brian Ngoshi as he walked home from Kachuta Business Centre. The court heard that he assaulted Ngoshi, left him unconscious, and stole small personal items before fleeing. Ngoshi was later rescued by a passerby who alerted his relatives.

Zvitsva remains in custody and is expected to hear his sentence on Wednesday.
