A 32-year-old Bindura man has been sentenced to an effective 12 months in prison after admitting to brutally assaulting his wife during a domestic dispute in which she sustained serious injuries.
The sentence was handed down by the Bindura Magistrates Court after the man pleaded guilty to domestic violence involving physical abuse as defined under the Domestic Violence Act.
The court heard that the incident occurred on June 21, 2026, at a farm in Bindura following an argument between the couple over allegations of infidelity.
According to court proceedings, the man lured his 42-year-old wife into believing he wanted to be intimate with her before violently assaulting her with a razor blade, causing severe injuries to her genital area.
After the assault, the woman bled heavily while the offender gave her water to wash herself before the matter was later reported to the police.
Appearing before the court, the accused admitted to the offence and pleaded guilty.
The court sentenced him to 18 months’ imprisonment, with six months suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar offence during that period.
He will therefore serve an effective 12-month prison sentence.
The conviction adds to ongoing efforts by law enforcement authorities and the courts to combat domestic violence and hold perpetrators accountable.
Authorities continue to urge members of the public to resolve domestic disputes peacefully and to report all forms of gender-based and domestic violence to the police or relevant support services.
