Eureka Gold Mine in Guruve has produced more than seven tonnes of gold since it resumed operations in 2021, following an investment of over US$50 million that has transformed the mine and surrounding communities.
The milestone was celebrated through a community sporting event that brought together mine workers, residents, Government officials and business operators to mark five years of production and the mine’s contribution to local development.
The recommissioning of the mine has resulted in increased economic activity and improved access to social infrastructure in surrounding communities.
Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Christopher Magomo said the mine demonstrated the value of cooperation between Government, investors, traditional leaders, local authorities, workers and communities.
“This occasion is not merely about marking an anniversary; it is a celebration of what can be achieved when Government, investors, traditional leaders, local authorities, workers and communities work together towards a common development objective,” he said.
Eureka remained idle for almost two decades, with its pit flooded and processing plant inactive, before Dallaglio Investments committed more than US$50 million in 2018 towards its revival and expansion.
The investment has been accompanied by substantial employment growth. The workforce increased from 418 employees during construction to 699 when production commenced, and now stands at approximately 1 531 workers, making Eureka the largest single private employer in Guruve District.
The mine has also expanded its corporate social responsibility programmes, supporting communities through infrastructure development, business opportunities and skills development.
Eureka Gold Mine Human Capital Support Services Manager Tinago Tinago said a strong performance culture had helped drive production, safety and stakeholder relations.
“We have developed and embedded a high-performance culture which has resulted in very strong production performance, high safety standards and solid stakeholder relations. The five-year run in production is a success story for which we salute community leaders, Government officials, host communities and the Eureka Gold Mine family,” he said.
Ruyamuro resident Oscar Chinga said the reopening had brought significant changes to the area.
“I stay in the community and overall our community has been transformed for the better. Even here at Shinje, people are staying here and building homes,” he said.
Dande farm resident Knowledge Muropa said the mine had also supported the development of schools and clinics.
“The opening of Eureka Mine has seen clinics and schools being built. It has transformed this place. Now we have sports today. We have never experienced such in this place,” he said.
Gold production has risen significantly, from 92 kilogrammes per month in September 2021 to 232 kilogrammes per month in August 2026, reflecting the mine’s expanded operational capacity.
Five years after its return to production, Eureka’s contribution to Guruve extends beyond gold output, with employment, local business opportunities, skills development and community infrastructure increasingly shaping its economic footprint.
