Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Pfungwa Kunaka, has called for stronger service delivery mechanisms that respond to the needs of citizens, as the Government moves to improve the accessibility and effectiveness of social services.
Speaking during the ministry’s Stakeholder Consultation Workshop in Harare, yesterday, Kunaka said engagement with stakeholders is essential in identifying gaps in existing systems and developing sustainable solutions to improve service provision.
“This consultation is a critical exercise in strengthening our service delivery systems. We must ensure that the services we provide are responsive to the needs of our people, inclusive of all communities and effective in addressing the challenges they face,” said Mr Kunaka.
He said improving service delivery required continuous engagement among Government departments, stakeholders and other relevant institutions to identify shortcomings and develop practical interventions.
“Service delivery cannot be improved in isolation. We need to listen to the experiences of stakeholders, understand the gaps in our systems and work collectively to develop solutions that are sustainable and beneficial to the communities we serve,” he said.
Kunaka said the workshop was also an opportunity to strengthen collaboration and ensure that policies and programmes translated into tangible improvements in the lives of citizens.
He urged participants to contribute constructively to the review process, noting that their experiences and recommendations would help shape more effective approaches to delivering social services.
“We expect this engagement to generate practical recommendations that will guide us in strengthening our systems. Our focus must remain on ensuring that every citizen who requires assistance can access services efficiently, fairly and with dignity,” he said.
The workshop brought together key stakeholders to exchange ideas, identify service delivery challenges and develop strategies for improving the implementation of social welfare and other public services.
The consultation is expected to inform measures aimed at making service provision more accessible, coordinated and sustainable.
