Thousands of aspiring nurses have applied for enrolment into the newly established Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa School of Nursing in Kadoma, as the selection process advances ahead of the school’s official opening on May 4. The inaugural intake has attracted overwhelming interest, with thousands of applications submitted for only 20 available places.
The institution is expected to significantly contribute to training nurses and strengthening Zimbabwe’s health sector. Tutor-in-Charge, Ms Lusica Shumba, said preparations were progressing smoothly and emphasised the unique training environment that students will benefit from.
“Preparations for the opening of the school are now at an advanced stage, and we are ready to welcome our first intake of students. The presence of a fully equipped Muduvuri Pan African Hospital gives our students a unique opportunity for hands-on training and practical exposure, which is critical in shaping competent and highly skilled nurses,” she said.
Philanthropist Jimayi Muduvuri said the establishment of the nursing school was part of a shared national responsibility to build Zimbabwe’s future through investment in the health sector.
“It is the moral duty of every Zimbabwean to contribute towards building our country in line with the national mantra ‘Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo’. This institution is part of that vision to invest in our health sector and empower future generations. Naming the school after Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa is in recognition of her leadership and commitment to health development,” he said.
Meanwhile, the adjacent Muduvuri Pan African Hospital, which will serve as the main training centre, has been named after Auxillia Mnangagwa in honour of her dedication to advancing healthcare and community wellbeing in Zimbabwe.
