Steelmakers powers Zimbabwe’s industrial push

As Zimbabwe accelerates its industrialisation agenda, local manufacturers are intensifying efforts to scale production and reduce import dependency, with Steelmakers Limited emerging as one of the standout players.

The company is showcasing a wide range of locally produced steel products at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, highlighting its growing role in infrastructure development, value addition and foreign currency retention.

In an interview with the media, Branch Manager Fungai Munemo said Steelmakers’ integrated value chain positions it as a major contributor to national industrial growth.

“Steelmakers is one of the leading steel manufacturers in the region, with an integrated value chain spanning from iron ore mining in Masvingo and direct reduced iron, through to the production of quality steel for the market. This ensures we retain much-needed foreign currency in the country.

Our competitive edge lies in value addition, as we transform raw materials into finished products, strengthening our international focus. Our focus is on quality, consistency, and contributing meaningfully to Zimbabwe’s infrastructure development. Platforms like ZITF allow us to engage stakeholders and explore new markets,” he said.

Beyond its exhibition footprint, the company is pursuing strategic partnerships and expanding its regional reach in alignment with national development priorities.

“Zimbabwe is one of the fastest-growing economies in the region, and we are looking at market expansion in line with Vision 2030. Our clients across the region can expect more as we scale up production and strengthen our offerings,” Munemo added.

Steelmakers’ participation at ZITF mirrors the broader momentum within Zimbabwe’s manufacturing sector, where firms are ramping up production, driving innovation and reinforcing domestic value chains to support sustainable long-term economic growth.
