The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has expressed satisfaction with progress on the Hills Luxury Golf Course in Harare, which is undergoing an extensive upgrade into a world-class sporting facility.
A tour of the site this Thursday confirmed that construction is moving at an impressive pace, with the redevelopment expected to significantly strengthen Zimbabwe’s sports infrastructure. The project goes beyond golf, incorporating tennis courts, a swimming pool and various social amenities, effectively transforming the space into a multi-purpose sports complex in line with the National Development Strategy Two (NDS2).
SRC Acting Director-General Peter Mudzimiri said the magnitude of the investment marks a major milestone for the sector.
“We were taken through the facility by the developers, and we appreciated every facet of development. It is a massive investment,” he said.
“Not only will golf be played here, but there will also be other sporting facilities such as tennis courts and a swimming pool. They are all part of a multi-purpose sporting infrastructure. There are also social amenities that will support the sporting side.”
“One good thing we appreciated is that there will be public access, which is key to us as the SRC and Government because we want members of the public to benefit.”
Strategically positioned near the National Sports Stadium, the facility is expected to serve both local and international sporting needs, including hosting visiting teams. Accommodation facilities, including hotels and an exclusive residential area, are also planned as part of the development, with completion targeted for April next year.
The initiative underscores Zimbabwe’s ongoing push to modernise sporting facilities and position the country as a competitive regional hub for sport and recreation.
