Mighty Warriors eye crucial Malawi clash in Olympic Qualification push

Zimbabwe’s Mighty Warriors have been handed a tough regional assignment in the qualifiers for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games after being drawn against Malawi.

Zimbabwe received a bye in the opening round before being paired against the improving Malawian side in the next stage of the qualifiers.

The two-legged encounter will be played between October 5 and October 13, with the Mighty Warriors set to host the return leg at home.

Despite Malawi’s recent rise in women’s football, Zimbabwe will take confidence from their previous meeting after beating the Scorchers 2-1 in a Three Nations Tournament played in Lilongwe last year.

An Ethel Chinyerere brace secured victory for the Mighty Warriors in that encounter.

The Mighty Warriors will also be hoping to recreate the success of 2016 when they became the first Zimbabwean football team to qualify for the Olympic Games after reaching the Rio Olympics.
