The Confederation of African Football (CAF) and UEFA have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation and accelerating football development across Africa and Europe.
The agreement signed in Vancouver, Canada by CAF president Patrice Motsepe and UEFA president, Aleksander Čeferin, runs until 2031.
The partnership focuses on youth and women’s football development, coach and referee education, governance and knowledge sharing between the two football bodies.
Motsepe says the partnership will help African football continue its rapid growth, while creating more opportunities for young players, coaches and referees.
Čeferin says the agreement also seeks to promote inclusion, women’s football and community development through the power of the game.
Under the arrangement, African member associations are expected to benefit from technical exchange programmes, joint youth competitions, referee development initiatives and football education pathways.
The agreement also reinforces the long-standing football relationship between Africa and Europe, where many African players continue to thrive in top European leagues.
