While officially opening the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Bulawayo, today, Botswana President, Duma Boko, stated that Zimbabwe remains a critical trading partner for Botswana. He said,” We can do so much together. There is immense potential for collaboration between our two countries, as we share a strong commitment to advancing trade and economic cooperation. Zimbabwe’s economy is showing renewed momentum and growth, and I wish to commend His Excellency, the President of Zimbabwe, for the progress made in achieving macroeconomic stability and development. This growth is inspiring confidence in the African economy.”
President Boko further highlighted the need to address administrative bottlenecks and infrastructure deficits that increase the cost of doing business. He added, “It is essential to invest in and maintain key infrastructure particularly rail and road networks to facilitate efficient trade.
“As international trade evolves from one-stop border posts to more streamlined, non-stop systems, the need for substantial investment across the continent becomes even more urgent.”
President Boko encouraged the business sector to provide Government with solutions that promote economic growth. He said, “You must play an active role in supporting Government efforts to address national challenges. Engage with Government by presenting well-considered, practical solutions rather than seeking answers alone. Bring forward ideas that can help shape effective policy and implementation.”
President Boko highlighted the need to prioritise innovation by investing in research and development. He said bridging the gap between urban centres and rural areas will help unlock new markets and advance the broader African agenda.
The 66th Edition of the ZITF attracted a high turnout of exhibitors from across the local, regional, and international markets. It ran under the theme, “Connecting Economies, Competitive Industries.”
