Empowerment programmes to be closely monitored

Government is set to strengthen monitoring and accountability mechanisms to ensure empowerment programmes deliver meaningful benefits to communities, this was revealed by Zanu PF National Treasurer General, Patrick Chinamasa, in Mutare.

Speaking, yesterday, at the CAB 3 Solidarity Rally held at Mutare Teachers’ College, Patrick Chinamasa said there is need to ensure that all empowerment initiatives are properly tracked and benefit intended recipients.

“An audit team will assess how beneficiaries are using empowerment funds. Every programme must be traceable and accountable,” he said.

The rally saw the presentation of the Presidential War Veterans Borehole Drilling Scheme as part of ongoing efforts to support liberation war veterans and improve livelihoods.

Chinamasa said strong accountability systems will help curb abuse of resources and ensure that national programmes contribute to economic growth at grassroots level.

The event was attended by senior Government and party officials, including War Veterans League Secretary, Douglas Mahiya, who welcomed the borehole drilling initiative, saying it reflects growing recognition of the role played by liberation war veterans.

“These programmes are meant to uplift communities and ensure that no one and no place is left behind. They will be rolled out across the country to benefit more people,” he said.

The Government continues to prioritise empowerment programmes as part of broader efforts to drive inclusive development and improve living standards, in line with the country’s aspirations under Vision 2030 to achieve an upper middle-income economy.
