A 24-year-old woman from Churu Farm in Glenview has been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment by the Mbare Magistrates’ Court after she bit off part of her neighbour’s ear during a violent altercation, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said on Saturday.
In a statement, the NPAZ said Bridget Jengwa was convicted of assault following an incident that occurred on 20 April 2026 involving her 21-year-old neighbour.
“The Mbare Magistrates’ Court has convicted Bridget Jengwa, a 24-year-old woman from Churu Farm, Glenview and sentenced her to 12 months’ imprisonment for a violent assault on a 21-year-old neighbour,” the authority said.
The court heard that the confrontation arose after Jengwa accused the victim of having an extramarital affair with her husband, leading to a heated dispute at the victim’s residence.
“On the 20th of April 2026, the offender confronted the victim at her residence, accusing her of having an extramarital affair with her husband,” the NPAZ said.
Despite attempts by the victim’s mother to defuse the situation, the accused allegedly escalated the confrontation into violence.
“Despite efforts by the victim’s mother to mediate the dispute, the offender remained in a state of rage,” the statement read.
The NPAZ said the assault turned violent when Jengwa attacked the complainant before inflicting a severe injury.
“In a shocking display of violence, the offender assaulted the victim with open hands before dragging her and biting off a portion of her right ear,” the authority said.
According to prosecutors, the accused then left the scene after discarding the severed part of the ear on the ground, leaving the victim seriously injured.
“She dropped the severed piece of the ear on the floor and fled the scene with her child, leaving the victim bleeding profusely,” the NPAZ said.
The court sentenced Jengwa to 12 months imprisonment, with 3 months suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour, leaving her to serve an effective 9-month jail term.
The NPAZ reminded the public that violence is never an acceptable way to resolve disputes. Such actions cause serious harm and carry severe legal consequences.
