Manchester City’s Premier League title hopes suffered a significant blow as they were held to a dramatic 3-3 draw by David Moyes’ Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday night.
Speed merchant Jeremy Doku was the hero for the visitors, scoring twice, including a stunning 97th-minute equalizer, to rescue a point after Everton had stormed into a 3-1 lead. However, the result leaves Pep Guardiola’s side five points adrift of leaders Arsenal with four games remaining.
City took the lead in the first half through a fine Doku curler. The second half belonged to Everton initially, as Thierno Barry struck twice and Jake O’Brien added another in a blistering 13 minute spell to put the Toffees 3-1 up.
Erling Haaland pulled one back shortly after, before Doku produced a moment of magic in added time, curling home from outside the box to send the away fans into delirium and deny Everton a famous victory.
The draw boosts Arsenal’s position at the top of the table and highlights Everton’s competitiveness under their current setup, even as they battle in mid-table. Guardiola’s men will now need near perfect results in their remaining fixtures to keep their championship dreams alive.
