U.S. President Donald Trump announced on the 5th that the Strait of Hormuz ‘Project Freedom’ would be temporarily suspended. This comes just two days after the operation began on the 4th.
In a post on his social media Truth Social, President Trump stated, “Following requests from Pakistan and other countries, and considering the massive military success achieved in operations against Iran, as well as significant progress toward a complete and final agreement with Iranian representatives, a mutual agreement was reached.”
He added, “The blockade will continue to be maintained in full force, but ‘Project Freedom’ (ship movements through the Strait of Hormuz) will be temporarily suspended for a short period to verify whether a final agreement can be concluded and signed.”
President Trump emphasized that this measure aims to assess the possibility of a negotiated settlement while reaffirming that the naval blockade against Iran remains in place. Consequently, U.S.-led operations supporting ship passage in the Strait of Hormuz are expected to be suspended for the time being.
