The Minister of State Security, Lovemore Matuke has called for unity and discipline within liberation war veterans’ ranks, warning against internal divisions and public disagreement over Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB 3), as debate around the proposed reforms continues.
Speaking at a ZANU PF Masvingo Provincial Interdistrict meeting held on Saturday, Minister Matuke said cohesion among liberation cadres was critical for safeguarding the gains of independence and supporting national development programmes.
“We know CAB 3 needs a lot of support from all the constituencies, and we hope that, as they vote, they will feel the will and needs of the people who sent them to Parliament. We wish them to discharge their mandate and support CAB 3, because it was overwhelmingly supported by the majority of the people during the outreach programme,” he said.
Minister Matuke also cautioned against attempts to portray war veterans as divided over the Bill, insisting that no individual or group was above others in matters of national interest.
“No war veteran is more special than the other. We must remain united and focused on development,” he said.
He further warned against narratives suggesting that CAB 3 contradicts the objectives of the liberation struggle, urging stakeholders to respect democratic processes and the role of elected representatives.
The Minister said government-led constitutional and governance reforms are grounded in broad consultations and are intended to enhance institutional efficiency, strengthen service delivery, and accelerate economic transformation.
The meeting also reaffirmed support for ongoing mobilisation efforts in favour of Government programmes, with party officials emphasising discipline, unity, and collective responsibility within revolutionary structures.
ZANU PF officials said internal cohesion remained essential for sustaining development gains and achieving national goals under Vision 2030, adding that constitutional reforms must be understood within the broader context of national progress and stability.
