President Mnangagwa promotes Fidelis Mhonda to Major General

Commander in Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has promoted Brigadier General Fidelis Mhonda to the rank of Major General with effect from June 22.

The new rank was formally conferred during an investiture ceremony held at Defence House in Harare on Tuesday, where Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, General Emmanuel Matatu, officiated over the promotion.

Speaking after receiving his new rank, Major General Mhonda expressed gratitude to President Mnangagwa for the confidence shown in his leadership and service.

“I am truly honoured to stand before you today receiving this promotion to the rank of Major General. It is a significant milestone in my military career, and I sincerely thank the Commander-in-Chief, Head of State and Government, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa, through the Commander Zimbabwe Defence Forces and the Commander Zimbabwe National Army, for believing in me and granting me this opportunity,” he said.

Major General Mhonda also paid tribute to his colleagues and mentors, acknowledging their support throughout his career.

“I am deeply grateful to my colleagues who challenged, inspired and supported me every step of the way. This promotion is not just a personal achievement, but a reflection of the teamwork, dedication and collaboration that have shaped my journey,” he said.

The investiture ceremony was attended by senior commanders from the Zimbabwe National Army, the Air Force of Zimbabwe and other senior officers from across the Zimbabwe Defence Forces.
