Police in Beitbridge have arrested a 40-year-old man in connection with a robbery in which cash and five bags of Mopani worms (madora/amacimbi) were stolen from a house in New Alpha Suburb.

In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the arrest of Collin Mupanduki (40), who was allegedly caught while attempting to find buyers for the stolen goods.

Police said the suspect’s movements after the robbery led to his swift identification and arrest as he attempted to dispose of the stolen Mopani worms on the informal market.

“The suspect was arrested while attempting to find buyers for the stolen Mopani worms,” the police said.

Authorities also recovered the stolen property as well as weapons believed to have been used during the robbery.

“Police recovered the five bags of Mopani worms, as well as an axe, a knife and machetes believed to have been used during the commission of the offence.

Investigations are continuing as they seek to establish whether the suspect could be linked to other related cases in the area, where incidents of robbery involving cash and informal trade goods have been reported,” the police added.

Meanwhile, ZRP has urged members of the public to report suspicious activities and avoid purchasing goods of questionable origin, warning that buying stolen property contributes to criminal activity.
