Speaker of Parliament, Advocate Jacob Francis Mudenda, has reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to supporting initiatives that empower young people and facilitate the successful reintegration of returnees into society.
Advocate Mudenda made the remarks, yesterday, when he received a courtesy call from Father Fidelis Mukonori and representatives from Silveria House, an organisation dedicated to empowering young people through skills development, entrepreneurship training and social support programmes.
Advocate Mudenda commended Silveria House for complementing Government efforts to empower vulnerable communities, particularly young people and returnees seeking to rebuild their lives.
“The work being undertaken by Silveria House resonates with Zimbabwe’s national development aspirations as espoused in Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy.
Empowering our young people through skills development and entrepreneurship is not merely a social imperative, but an economic necessity that unlocks their potential to contribute meaningfully to national development,” he said.
He said Parliament recognises the importance of inclusive development programmes that leave no one behind and ensure that vulnerable groups are provided with opportunities to participate fully in the country’s socio-economic transformation.
“Young people constitute one of Zimbabwe’s greatest assets. When they are equipped with relevant skills, supported through entrepreneurship programmes and provided with opportunities for sustainable livelihoods, they become catalysts for innovation, productivity and economic growth,” he said.
Advocate Mudenda further underscored the importance of partnerships between State institutions, faith-based organisations and development actors in addressing social challenges facing communities.
“Collaborative partnerships remain indispensable in fostering social cohesion and promoting sustainable development.
Institutions such as Silveria House play a complementary role in strengthening community resilience and supporting the successful reintegration of returnees through holistic interventions that restore dignity and create pathways towards self-reliance,” he said.
Parliament remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote social inclusion, youth empowerment and sustainable livelihoods as Zimbabwe continues to pursue broad-based socio-economic development.
The courtesy call highlighted the growing role of community-based organisations in supporting national efforts aimed at empowering citizens and strengthening social cohesion across the country.
