Harare residents will face a three-day water supply disruption this Friday as the city undertakes urgent repairs and maintenance works at two critical water infrastructure facilities.
The City of Harare said water supplies would be affected from 6am on Friday, 14 August to Sunday 16 August 2026, following a partial shutdown of Morton Jaffray Water Works and a total shutdown of Warren Control Pump Station.
“The shutdown will allow the city to repair leaking infrastructure and clean reservoirs at the two facilities. Consequently, water supply to the entire City of Harare will be affected during this period,” said the Acting Town Clerk, Advocate Warren Sean Chiwawa.
The planned intervention is expected to improve the reliability and efficiency of Harare’s water supply system by addressing leaks and maintenance challenges at critical facilities.
Reservoir cleaning is also expected to improve water storage conditions, help safeguard water quality and ensure infrastructure operates more efficiently, while repairing leaks could reduce water losses within the distribution system.
In the longer term, the works are expected to strengthen the city’s capacity to provide residents with a more consistent and reliable water supply.
Residents have therefore been urged to store adequate water in clean, covered containers before Friday morning and to use the available supplies sparingly throughout the shutdown.
The local authority said normal water supplies were expected to resume at 6pm on Sunday, 16 August upon completion of the works.
