Zimbabwe and the Kyrgyz Republic have moved to deepen bilateral relations following the inaugural Political Consultations held in Bishkek, yesterday.
The consultations were co-chaired by Zimbabwe’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador Albert R. Chimbindi, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic.
In a statement,yesterday, Ambassador Chimbindi said the inaugural consultations demonstrated the commitment of both countries to establishing a structured mechanism for regular political dialogue and strengthening cooperation across various sectors.
“Zimbabwe is keen to build stronger institutional links with Kyrgyzstan while expanding cooperation beyond political relations into areas that could generate tangible economic and social benefits for citizens.
“We discussed ways of increasing trade and investment, deepening economic cooperation and strengthening people-to-people relations, while expressing interest in identifying new opportunities for collaboration,”Ambassador Chimbindi said.
Ambassador Chimbindi said the development presented an opportunity for the two countries to enhance consultations and coordination on matters before the Security Council, particularly issues relating to international peace and security.
He, however, stressed that such coordination would respect the national positions, priorities and interests of both countries.
“Both countries have a shared commitment to strengthening multilateral cooperation, particularly within the United Nations and other multilateral fora,” Ambassador Chimbindi said.
The inaugural consultations reaffirmed the mutual interest of Zimbabwe and Kyrgyzstan in broadening bilateral ties and maintaining regular political dialogue.
