A suspected drug dealer was arrested in Bulawayo after a dramatic police chase and shootout ended when his vehicle crashed into a road kerb near Famona Fire Brigade.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the arrest of 23-year-old Kalusher Mtetwa on September 19 following a high-speed pursuit over alleged unlawful possession of drugs.
According to police, Mtetwa was intercepted at about 6pm along George Silundika Street between 8th and 9th Avenue, where he was found seated in a blue Honda Fit GE6, registration number AHR 7991.
The vehicle had reportedly attracted the attention of police after being parked suspiciously in the area.
“The ZRP confirms the arrest of a drug lord, Kalusher Mtetwa (23), following a shootout with police officers and vehicle speed chase, for unlawful possession of drugs, on 19/09/26 at approximately 1800 hours,” police said.
Police said the suspect attempted to evade arrest, triggering a high-speed chase through the city.
His attempt to escape was eventually brought to an end near Famona Fire Brigade after he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a road kerb.
“The suspect was apprehended after he crashed the vehicle onto a road kerb near Famona Fire Brigade while attempting to evade arrest,” the ZRP said.
A subsequent search of the Honda Fit allegedly resulted in the recovery of several sachets of dagga and Gorilla Glue, as well as Bronclear syrup and Astra Pain syrup.
The arrest comes amid continued police efforts to crack down on the distribution and possession of illicit drugs in urban areas.
Police have repeatedly warned members of the public against engaging in drug-related activities, while urging communities to provide information that could assist in identifying suspected drug dealers and supply networks.
